Antonello da Messina – Annunciata
Among Italian Renaissance painters, Antonello da Messina (1430–1479) stands out as a key figure.
Born in Messina, he was one of the first Italian artists to adopt the oil painting techniques of the Flemish masters.
His innovative use of light, perspective, and realism set new standards in portraiture and religious art.
During his time in Venice, Antonello influenced local artists, bridging Northern and Southern European painting traditions.
One of his most celebrated works, The Annunciata, housed at the Palazzo Abatellis Museum in Palermo, showcases his mastery of delicate expressions and luminous colors.
