Even King Frederick III of Sicily, during its domination in Sicily loved to spend his vacations in Montalbano Elicona, so much that he decided to enlarge the military fortress and to turn it into a real castle that eventually became his holiday residence.
The historic center, with its intricated system of alleyways and old churches, stands at the bottom of the famous Castle. Take a stroll and visit the Castle to enjoy a panoramic view of the town and the landscape around from the dojon, the old watchtower.
